Bastrop is home
Piney Paws isn’t just based in Bastrop—it is the community where owner April Winder raised her family, built her business, and has lived for nearly two decades.
April moved to Bastrop around 2007/2008 and raised her daughters here.
April and her family were living in Bastrop during the 2011 Bastrop Complex Fire and lost their home at the time. Watching the community come together, and then watching the Lost Pines, neighborhoods, and trees recover over the years, has made Bastrop feel like home.
Piney Paws works in apartments, newer subdivisions, historic homes, rural properties, acreage, and everything in between. We primarily care for dogs and cats, but we’ve also cared for birds, rabbits, ferrets, goats, horses, chickens, fish/koi, and a few more unusual animals over the years.
April also has a long-standing connection to local animal welfare, including previous work with the Bastrop Animal Shelter. Piney Paws generally gives back approximately $800–$1,000 annually.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you measure the ten miles?
We measure by driving distance using Google Maps, starting from the Bastrop State Park entrance on Park Road 1A. We use driving distance rather than a straight-line radius because the river, state park, and road layout can significantly affect actual travel time.
My neighborhood is on your list, but I'm near the far edge of it. Am I still in the area?
Possibly not, several neighborhoods we serve extend past our boundary at their outer edges. Check the driving distance from the park entrance to your specific address, or send it to us and we’ll check it for you!
I'm just outside the boundary. Will you make an exception?
Unfortunately, no. Drive time is what lets us arrive when we said we would and respond quickly if something goes wrong, and stretching the area undermines both.
Does being inside the service area guarantee that you can accept my household?
Being within our service area is the first step. New clients complete our onboarding process and in-home consultation so we can make sure the requested care, household, pets, schedule, and our team are a good fit for one another.
